I started Avenue B several years ago while I was living on Avenue B and 10th Street in New York City. What began as my interest in making new friends and experiencing all that New York has to offer turned into much more. I was renting an oversized (rent-controlled) brownstone with a friend, and we often invited a group of people (artists, writers, business folks) over to talk and to go out and enjoy a wide variety of activities. Most times, one or two people in the group would select and lead an activity. Our gatherings continued to evolve into a more formal and highly dynamic group with a set of common goals: to get out and have fun, meet new people, stay fit and learn new things---together.
In 2002, I moved back to my native Fairfield County (I grew up in New Canaan) and sought to re-connect with friends with whom I had shared many happy years in my late 20’s and early 30’s. I decided to re-create the vibrant community I had enjoyed down in the East Village on Avenue B. I got advice and input from friends and designed (and worked with a development firm to build) an interactive website to help everyone connect with greater ease. The club formally opened to the public in the Fairfield County area in April, 2004. This unique social club seeks to enrich and expand the personal lives of many Fairfield County residents. My plans are to expand the club beyond Connecticut in the future.
